John Moss

February 8th, 1934 – November 25th, 2022

John Hazelton Moss, age 88, of Lincoln Park, Chicago, passed at home on November 25th, 2022. Born February 8th, 1934 on the city's Southside to the late Frances (nee Parker) and Chester A. Moss. Dear brother of the late Chester A. Moss, Jr., the late James Moss (who died in infancy) and the late Hugh Moss of Michigan. Dear brother-in-law of the late Kathleen (Chester, Jr.) Moss.

John will be missed by his nieces and nephews: Christopher (Carol Squires) Moss, Gregory Moss, Mary Anne (Dan) DeLacy, Laura (Jim) White, Amy Gorman and Susan Moss.

He will also be missed by his many friends and neighbors, especially the Conway family: Christina, Scott ("Gub"), and their daughter, Faye as well as their extended family members.

John served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, being stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts in 1959. His experiences there led to his subsequent career in the then burgeoning field of Computer Science. He worked closely with pioneers of coding languages that are still in use today.

After retiring, John remained active as an avid reader, writer, and chess player. He loved and was active, in his Northside neighborhood, and kept up membership in many organizations, including MENSA and the Prometheus Society.

Keeping up to date on social issues was always important to John: protecting our natural environment was a cause especially close to his heart.
