Title

Ferangi as Jewish Representation: Good, Bad or Neither; a Conversation

Description

First conceived to represent the worst elements of capitalist society but instead portrayed as short hunched monkey men. The Ferengi didn't find their true place in Star Trek lore until DS9’s run after Jean’s death.

During DS9, the Ferengi characters became fan favorites but there’s since been a backlash. Some say the Ferengi are anti-Semitic caricatures.

In this session we’ll discuss Star Trek, its creation & creators; the Ferengi & their culture; how they are viewed both in world & out; and try to come to a conclusion about whether they are a positive or negative Jewish representation.
