Animalia Obscura: Hidden Oddities of the Animals and Insects Around Us
Description
This lively presentation weaves science with natural history presented through the lens of Rebecca’s work as an urban wildlife manager and wildlife disease epidemiology researcher. Rebecca will share specimens from her “Creepy Zoo,” a traveling live insect zoo and she invites you to meet her giant pet cockroach, Kafka. This talk is geared toward adults, but children are welcome to attend.

Rebecca is a socially-conscious entrepreneur and founder of Landmark Pest Management. The firm contributes significantly to science in the public interest.
She is a researcher in collaboration with the Urban Wildlife Institute at the Lincoln Park Zoo, working under grants from the National Science Foundation and the Grant Healthcare Foundation, to study human-wildlife interactions in community gardens across Chicago and perform wildlife disease surveillance to monitor for emerging pathogens.
