Chicago: Aviation’s Incubator—How Chicago Shaped the U.S. Aviation Industry
Although aviation didn’t originate in Chicago, more than any other city, it was Chicago that nurtured the development of aviation in this country. Join us as Michael Haupt explores Chicago’s long-overlooked role shaping the aviation industry into key part of the U.S. economy. Starting in the 1910, the Chicago business community jumped into aviation with the same enthusiasm they rebuilt the city after the Great Fire. Over the next several decades, Chicago came to be called the “Air Capital of the United States.”
Michael Haupt is a recognized aviation historian having made presentations on aviation history to numerous aviation and community groups including an EAA AirVenture forum and the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame. Aviation Chicago Timeline, Michael’s first book, is a product of his insatiable curiosity and research coupled with a fastidious attention to detail. The result is a fascinating history revealing many events which have long been forgotten.
