An Instruction Manual for Computer Security
Description
This talk outlines a practical, incremental strategy for eliminating malware threats by redesigning operating systems around the principle of least privilege. Broader security measures include secure data formatting and phishing-resistant identity mechanisms. The talk concludes with policy proposals to incentivize secure-by-design computing practices.

Presenter’s Bio
Karen teaches computer science and computer security classes at DePaul University. From standalone end user applications to middleware to architecting distributed systems, Karen has created a wide range of software products and tools for a variety of industries, including among others publishing, banking, insurance, and logistics. She holds an MS in Computer Science from DePaul University, a JD from the University of Texas, and has completed the PhD coursework in Computer Science at UIC.

Deadlines

- Registration - Discounts for advanced registration are available through Friday, October 17th. (Note: Full payment is required by the appropriate deadline to qualify for the discount for which you registered.)
- Vendor space - Please complete and submit a Vendor Application by Wednesday, October 22nd. If you have any questions after reviewing the Vendor Flyer containing all the details, contact the WeeM Vendor Liaison .
- Lodging - The hotel is offering a WeeM rate of $129 through Thursday, October 9th, subject to availability. If the hotel block is full, please contact our WeeM Chair who will try to expand the block.
- Room Sharing - Email us if you’re interested in sharing a room by submitting your preferences by Wednesday, October 29th.
